Who We Are
The Health for the People Project was founded because we know that when people understand their own health and diseases, they can take charge of their healthcare. We also know that they're not being given the opportunity to learn. Health is hidden behind complicated terminology, studies are behind paywalls, doctors aren't willing or don't have the time to help you understand.
Studies tell us that 90 million U.S. adults don't understand their own health conditions and leave the office with unanswered questions. They also tell us that these people are 50% more likely to be hospitalized and 30% more likely to die from a chronic disease. When you look at the populations that are the most underserved, study after study gives the same answer: people with lower education levels and people with lower income.
Translation: People are dying because they, usually through no fault of their own, don't have the same resources and opportunities as others. That's not ok.
Our founder, Dr. Katelin Hubbard grew up in deep Appalachia. She saw firsthand what happens when good, hardworking people don’t have access to the care or information they need. She remembers family members and friends who suffered and died early because they didn't have the same care, if they could afford care at all. She has seen people choose food for their children over insulin, people who let their cancer go untreated because they couldn't afford chemo, and try to rely on whatever herbs and plants they could get, even if it wasn't the best. She also knows things aren't getting better for the majority of people- they're getting worse.
She decided from a young age she was going to try to do whatever she could to help. She spent over a decade studying the human body, from the smallest chemical reactions all the way up to how whole systems work together, while raising two children along the way. Her goal wasn’t just to learn, it was always to come back to her people and teach. Because she knows education is power. Education means not having to guess anymore. It means not having to settle for whatever you can get. It means being able to ask informed questions that let your medical team know you can advocate for yourself.
How do you learn? That's our job. We teach you the basics, and then go deeper and get into the details of how your body works and why it is acting the way it is when you're sick. Instead of just telling you what to do, we teach you the why, whether that’s low energy, hormone shifts, histamine issues, or chronic symptoms that don’t seem to have clear answers.
Our goal is to close the gap between science and real life, so you can feel confident making decisions about your health without needing a medical degree to understand what’s going on.
